Healthy Aging Vs Anti Aging, Clinic Arroyo Goldstein Lima Peru

With all of the Antiaging treatments now available, we are being bombarded by ads for new, youthful services, such as PRP, Botox, Surgical Procedures, Creams, Drinks, Pills, and everything else that you can imagine.
Manufacturers hear about a new "discovery" and find a way to put that miracle cure into your body any way that they think is cheap and easy. Does it work?? Who knows, they might, but then again do they tell you how much of the active ingredient will actually enter your bloodstream? Is this going to have any benefit for me?
Let us start by looking on the surface at some of these claims.

Resveratrol. Fantastic discovery in antiaging treatments. I have been researching this product since I first read an article in Mens Health Magazine in 2007. You can find every type of pill, capsule, topical cream, juice blend, even a wine that has Resveratrol added to it. Resveratrol works by tricking your body into thinking it is taking in less calories. Since there is only one scientifically proven method of "AntiAging", which is calorie restriction, that tells you why this has the potential to be an effective means. However, if you look into the pharmacology of it, you will see that  while 70% of orally administered Resveratrol is absorbed, its oral bioavailability is approximately 0.5%, or not too much. Most effective method??  Liposomal, or Intravenous. Yet countless amounts of products are sold daily based on the claims of resveratrol, so these sales are driven by the listing of this magic ingredient on the label, but it will do absolutely no good.

Moving on to Vitamin C. Same here, everything available with vitamin c because all of the wonderful benefits of this little miracle. Creams, pills, capsules, powders, drinks, but how is it best absorbed in your system?? Liposomal or intravenous. In order for Vitamin C to be the powerhouse anti-oxidant that it is, you need to take high doses of it. If you increase the oral dose of Vitamin C, the actual absorption rate goes down the more you consume. So in these small amounts , not only is it not effective, but pure vitamin c will oxidise in about 15 minutes when exposed to light and air, so again, no real benefits from all of these heavily marketed products.

I am certainly not refuting the claims of all of this science, what I am saying though, is that there are different ways to imporve your health, thereby constituting a true AntiAging regimen.

The list of the "miracle touting" products fills the internet, but let us take a look at some more treatments that may work.
Surgery, Face lifts, effective method of looking younger, but is this really AntiAging? Maybe to some it is, but if you read on to the end of this article you will get my idea.
PRP, Platelet Rich Plasma, basically a stem cell injection of your own purified and concentrated plasma that will help rejuvenate your skin, this can work for appearances also.
Botox, injecting a paralyzing agent into the muscles to prevent the skin from wrinkling, again, this is changing appearance, not improving anything from within.

So, what is my point here??

Having been a good student of dietary supplements, and nutritional therapy for the better part of the past ten years, I became intereted in how vitamin therapy can actually change the course of many illnesses and diseases. Now, I am not talking about the vitamins that you can purchase at any drug store or discount chain, but the purest form of any of these great minerals, amino acids and powerhouse vitamins.

It can get a little complicated, but I will save you alot of the boring reading. Many of the Vitamins available can come from different sources and compounds, which will vary the absorption rate, bioavailability, and in the end, the effectiveness. Different processess are needed for some vitamins and minerals to begin circulating in your system, for exaple, some need stomach acids to release, some need others to set off a chain reaction to go to work,
A simple vitamin such as B-12, comes as four different compounds, the cheapest and most widely available is Cyanocobalamin, which actually contains one molecule of cyanide, which your body must convert and get rid of before it can convert it to a useable product, the cyanide is cleaned by the liver enzymes. the other, more benefecial types cost more, so you will generally not find that in the drug or pharmacy chains.

There are many more properties regarding each particular vitamin, mineral, and amino acid supplement, but I wish to get to the point at hand here. Intravenous Vitamin Therapy.

Ever since I had seen the quick recovery of patients who had been given different IV Vitamin Therapies, I became very interested in the subject, especially high dose Vitamin C. Imagine, treating without medicine, what a concept. The more I saw, the more I was hooked. I have traveled to various medical conferences to learn as much as I could on this topic, and I have been amazed at what I have witnessed. Last week I attended another conference, in Denver Colorado given by the American Association of Anti Aging Medicine on IV Nutritional Therapy in AntiAging Medicines. The boundaries of treatments are endless.

This has brought us to be able to offer these exciting and innovative treatments in our clinics in Lima, Peru. It is a perfect compliment to all of our minimally invasive surgical procedures. Just to give you an idea of what we now offer, I will begin by telling you that we have several variations of the Myers Cocktail, tailored for an individuals particular health needs.

The Myers Cocktail, which was developed by Dr John Myers, a physician from Baltimore, Maryland over 30 years ago, has been able to help people who suffer from the following problems:
Fibromyalgia, Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, Respitory Infections, Seasonal Alergies, Migranes, Chronic Sinus Infections, Acute Asthma, Flu Symptoms, and much more. Even healthy people choose to get these treatments because it enhanses their overall well being for variable periods of time, as well as many Athletes to support recovery from training.

So to sum up the theme of the article, healthy aging is the most important first step to antiaging treatments, start with the inside, and the outside will take care of itself.

This is only meant as an introduction to our new services, and you can find out more by writing to us, calling for an appointment, and by following our blogs. Our new website will also contain more information in the near future. Stay well, and come see us when you have the chance.

Cheap Dominican Republic Surgeries causes another senseless death. That is what the Headlines Say.

Once again,  news headlines are being made by the unnecessary death of a young woman seeking cosmetic surgery in a foreign country. Read the article if you want right here: http://www.nbcmiami.com/news/local/Low-Cost-Dominican-Surgeries-Spark-Warnings-by-US-253209371.html   It appeared today in many major city's newspapers.

I have been writing articles for the past eight years that deal with safety in Cosmetic Surgery, as well as trying to inform patients of their many choices available in the newest techniques in Aesthetic Surgery.  The most direct point to be made here is a well defined set of protocols of security that should be mandated to be followed on every single elective procedure.

My Father in Law, Dr Ivan Arroyo Tovar coined the title Alt S Protocol of Seguridad, a topic, of which he has given instruction at different international conferences over the past 15 plus years. A standard in all of our clinics in Lima, Peru. Simple on the surface, easy to implement, but still not done in many places, why??? Greed, more profits, lack of proper training, time saving, the list goes on and on. These standards include points such as: Thorough medical history, Lab screening and evaluation in order to assess the risk factor of every patient, not combining surgeries in the same session, only the use of local anesthesia, Liposuction to be done in sessions of alternating days, the use of micro fine cannula, and more. You can find the entire protocol on any of our webpages.

All of this works out to one main subject: Patient safety. That is why our clinics have a history of over 30,000 safe patient procedures in over 30 years. No Compromises. We have patients who come from foreign countries every day of the week, and inevitably, patients will ask to have surgeries combined in order to save time and go home early. The answer will always be No! We have evidence of some, who when we refused, went elsewhere, and have had serious complications, and some who have died. Serious matters here, the consequences can be severe. That is why there is no flexibility in combining surgeries, or accepting patients who may be at risk.

The two biggest factors to blame in this tragedy will most likely play out like this: General Anesthesia, and performing multiple surgeries in the same session. So who is at fault in that case? The Surgeon. Putting the patient at risk, so as to eliminate the need for multiple entries into the operating room, and thereby saving the expense of anesthesia, nurses, medicine, technicians, and mostly, his time.

Even the quickest amount of research will show that when a tummy tuck, or abdominoplasty is combined with liposuction, which also means general anesthesia is being used, there is an increased risk of massive pulmonary embolism. Each one being done in a separate session days apart, monitoring the patients red cell counts will not be putting the patients life at any risk.

Studies that have been done over the past 20 years will show that the Tumescent Liposuction is one of the safest procedures performed, because it is used with local anesthesia, as long as it is within the tolerances proven to limit the amount of anesthetic by patient weight. . Once you invoke General Anesthesia, especially in order to perform surgery on several areas of the body, that is where patients will be at risk.

The articles written about these unfortunate occurrences, try to highlight the fact that the surgeries were cheap. Cheap is not the root cause, failure to follow known standards is at fault. The prices of surgeries differ in many countries due to many factors, the biggest being is malpractice insurance premiums in the USA. The fact that many surgical procedures can be done outside of the USA for between a third to one half the cost does not necessarily mean that they will be sub standard. Many of these Doctors have been trained in the USA, as well as many other countries. Cheaper labor costs, a lower cost of living, medicines that cost much less, even though they come form many of the same pharmaceutical companies, are available in many countries, and not just in the third world.

Use all of the information available to you in making a smart decision, ask about patient referrals, use all of your senses when researching medical treatment outside of your own country. Use your best judgement when making a decision that may have extreme consequences. Ask questions, do not be afraid, if you do not feel comfortable, or something is not just right, take your time, and you will be fine. One more point, I have also heard from some people, that they felt trapped into staying with a doctor because they paid in advance, and feared not getting a refund. This is not a valid reason, make sure of your options before, check the payment methods accepted, and if you are not satisfied, walk the other way, it is not worth your life.

Can Cosmetic Surgery Really Change Someones Life??

The media, lately has had many articles and various shows regarding plastic surgery. The general theme has been directed towards several figures: the aging Hollywood idol and the would-be Hollywood idol. Cosmetic surgery is de rigueur in the movie and TV business—easy to understand, given how much looks matter on-screen.

But there's more recent research that says looks matter in jobs beyond the Hollywood borders. Various studies have shown that  beautiful people make more money and have more opportunities for advancement. So it's no surprise that plastic surgery is becoming a tool used for career advancement as well.
"In the corporate world, there's a lot of emphasis on image, and image goes with self-confidence," says Antonio Armani, a Beverly Hills, Calif., cosmetic surgeon. "I think a lot of people do invest money in improving their looks because they feel this is one way they can go up the corporate ladder." When you consider the boost in self esteem and self confidence, this is an area that transcends those borders, and actually can change a persons life in many aspects.

Many prospective patients will bring up the fact that their particular concern is bothering them so much that it affects their daily life. It may be a little extra fat around the waist, too large or too small breasts, a nose that is not symmetric, no matter how big or small a defect, it may have devastating consequences for this person.
Not just in career matters, but in all aspects of their personal life. It could be preventing them from enjoying a day at the beach, it could be stopping someone from exploring a new relationship,  it may even add to someones state of depression, the list goes on and on.

The decision to commit to a cosmetic surgery procedure may seem like a drastic measure, but it doesn't have to be. There must be a high level of trust with your Doctor. After all, your future is in their hands, really, it is. And for many, this will not be a one time deal. The best Cosmetic procedures, are the ones that are the most subtle, not the most dramatic ones. The ones where people who know you well, will look, and look, and try to figure out what is different about you, but can not quite put their finger on it.

Smaller, less dramatic changes help people adjust to their new changes easier. It is for this reason that you need to feel confident with your Doctor, because it should be a long term relationship, with procedures done as your body changes and ages. If that is what you desire.

You can see many disasters in Plastic Surgery, due to overdoing it. Some Doctors just don't know how to say NO! Just take a minute and Google bad plastic surgery. This is not a result of inexperienced Surgeons, it is the result of not wanting to "insult" the patient by saying no. On a steady basis, we find that patients will ask for too much at once, and we know it will end up badly. In our consultations, we "counsel" our prospective patients on which will give the best results, and think more in the lines of a program of changes, rather than all at once, which is also more dangerous.

All of our procedures are accomplished using local anesthesia, and if need be, combined with sedation for patient comfort. When more radical operations are done, and use General Anesthesia, the patient is at much greater risk of serious complications. Experience will tell the complete story.
We lay claim to over 30,000 safe patient procedures. The biggest reason for this, is the fact that we instill protocols of security that will not allow us to combine surgeries in a single day or session. We will not put a patient under General anesthesia, so we can perform a breast implant and and Liposuction at the same time. Doctors who perform this, and patients who accept this are staring trouble right down the barrel.

Why should I go to any foreign Country for Cosmetic Surgery, and what can I expect if I came to Lima Peru ?

There are different motivations as to why people would even consider to travel to a foreign country for any type of surgery, let alone for Cosmetic Surgery.
After spending the better part of the past eight years consulting with potential Medical Tourism candidates, I wish to share some of their  questions and concerns.

What kind of education do the Doctors in Peru receive?
Peruvian Doctors attend Medical School for the same amount of time as their counterparts in the USA do, and their entrance requirements are equal. Many of the Doctors that work for our Clinic also receive additional training at Seminars and Classes held all over the world. We have been presenters as well as students at some of the most prestigious  Medical Conferences in places such as Paris France, Barcelona Spain, Florence Italy, Miami Florida, Buenos Aires Argentina among many others.

If the cost of a procedure is cheaper, then it must be substandard.
Definitely not so. There are many factors that influence the cost of Surgery. If you think of making a list of each item that needs to be included in the cost of any procedure, it may make your head spin, but we will try to simplify it here. Physical location, wages, supplies, equipment, insurance, taxes and of course profit. In short, many parts here are on a much different scale than in the USA, for instance, we buy Implants for Breast procedures direct from the European Manufacturer, not a third party that marks it up 300% (significant amount, in USA can add several thousand dollars), labor costs are significantly lower, malpractice insurance premiums do not exist (can add as much as 30% to any procedure) even medical supplies from the same manufacturer are cheaper. I do not understand this part in its entirety, but if you were to compare prices from companies in the USA such as Johnson, and Johnson, Merck, Shearing Plough, etc, you will see that they sell the same products  products in Latin America that are much cheaper than in the United States.(watch all of the American tourists snap up medicine in Mexico) When you add this all up you can see why it is possible to perform a similar surgery at nearly one third the cost that it would be in the USA.

What kind of experience do you have?

We have over 30 years experience, with more than 30,000 safe patient surgeries completed. Our staff consists of teams of specialists, ranging from Board Certified Plastic Surgeons, General Surgeons, and various medical specialists and technicians.

How long will it take me to get there, and where can I stay?

Lima Peru, is only five and a half hour flight from Miami. There are a variety of hotels, apartments, etc. in all comfort and price ranges.

Who are your typical Clients?
We have been seeing patients from all over the world, with many of them coming from the United States, Europe, Australia, and Asia. Women of all ages, as well as Men have found comfort in correcting imperfections in their physical characteristics.

Which procedures are your most popular?

Liposuction of all areas, Breast Implants, Breast Reduction, Nose Jobs, Face lifts, Tummy Tucks, Brazilian Butt Lift, Facial fillers, Botox.

Can I have an online consultation before making a decision, or do I have to come to Lima first?
we can speak on the telephone, email, Skype, FaceTime, whichever method is easiest for you, so that we nay discuss the best options for you. You can find out the final costs of your surgery before you make your plans to travel.

How do I get started?

What to look for When Researching Clinics For Cosmetic Surgery in Peru

Many people have been going to countries other than the USA for Cosmetic Surgery Procedures. Out of all of the possible reasons, two stand out more than the others. They are price, and family vacations. Those who travel to Peru, where I spend most of my time writing, come here because they have family here. Others come due to the lower prices available for all types of medical care.
Lima, Peru has long been a destination for travelers, due to the close proximity to the USA and ease of travel, minimal hours of flying time, and diverse locations.
Many medical professionals from all specialties have received some training in the USA, but have chosen to practice in their home Country. This proves that we are not dealing with sub-standard care, just lower overhead, and one of the biggest expenses that add to USA surgeries is malpractice insurance premiums. Not that malpractice is non existent in Peru, just not the standard. That is why care must be taken in the available choices.
You need to use all of your senses, especially common sense when dealing outside of your own country. I have seen many successes, and failures, when proper caution is not used. In this day and age, with all the resources available to us, you must use them. Patient referrals, information available through the internet, your eyes and ears. Use them all.
I have seen as many horror stories coming from all parts of the USA, as I have in various parts of the world, so it is not just due to lack of attention to detail or lower quality service, just pure negligence and or greed. When I say greed, I mean the greed of some unscrupulous Doctors, who will just operate on any patient, and not take into consideration normal pre surgical protocols.  When you look into these incidents, you will see that many could have been prevented.
I write articles for various medical and travel websites, and have studied many of these unfortunate outcomes, and you will see where a little more thought would have helped.  I can point you to some of those later, but as you should, just GOOGLE your Doctors and Clinics, and look for any info that you may find.
Just to give you some sage advice, no matter where you go, you need to be aware of the potential risks.
First, and most common risk that Doctors who operate solely for profits put their patients in, is multiple surgeries at the same time. What I am talking about here is more than one procedure at a time, while using General Anesthesia. There is no reason to do a Liposuction and Breast Implant at the same time, other than to save time and expenses. Both of these can be done safely, separately, under local anesthesia, about a week apart.
Even a surgery as radical as a Tummy tuck, can be done with Local anesthesia and sedation, General Anesthesia must be avoided at all cost. If you research all forms of Tumescent liposuction, you will see that when it is done using local anesthesia, it is generally risk free. Once you introduce General Anesthesia into the equation, you are increasing the risk tenfold.
So the theme here is, General Anesthesia is the risk. Skilled, well trained surgeons can do Rhinoplasty, Liposuction, Breast Implants, Breast Reduction, Face Lifts, and Tummy Tucks all using only local anesthesia. This should be the only option.
The last, but one of the other very important details, is a thorough patient history taken as part of the pre operatory package.  Do not hide any details from your Doctor. Explain in detail any problems you had in the past, no matter how minor you think it may be. He may ask you if you are taking medication for anything you have been diagnosed with, but do not forget to tell him if you have been diagnosed with something that you are not taking medication for. Not all issues will show up on a lab test, you are the best help with any prior instances you may have suffered.
Happy patients are the best measure of success, ask for patient referrals, ask questions, use your best judgment when making these kind of decisions.

What Happens When Patients Look for Cheap Surgery??

Once again, I find myself writing about other peoples problems, and what happens when you go out looking for cheap surgery. It is unfortunate that the ultimate price to pay is a husband without a wife, or a child without a mother. I am not looking to exploit their sadness, or even their poor choices, but rather pose a few questions, and hopefully give some advice on why this type of behavior must stop.

The first part of this developed because I was looking to solve a problem we were having at our clinic concerning losing patients to other clinics after they had already decided to have surgery at our clinic. I am talking about patients who went through a thorough consultation, had pre-surgical testing done, scheduled surgery, and then cancelled at the last minute. After it happened a third time, we looked to investigate where the problem was, and found a leak coming from the laboratory that was doing the pre-surgical tests. As it turned out this particular laboratory has been doing Cosmetic Surgery Procedures themselves. How is that for a breach of patient ethics? How do you think this would be handled in the USA? Here in Peru we do not have the same rules of ethics to play by, so it happens here on a more regular basis.

As it turns out, there are three different doctors performing procedures at Clinica Cori in Los Olivos. One of them is a Dr Johan Zuvar Zubieta Vargas, who had his medical license suspended for life less than two years ago, due to negligence in performing Liposuction on a patient who is now in a vegetative state.  This happened in his Clinic in Tacna. Yet if you check the Colegio Medico website, it will show him as having an active license in Lima. How is this? How did this turn of events occur? Well, as it is here in this country, as long as you can pay, you can play. That is how it goes.

You can check these links for more on his story
http://www.radiouno.pe/noticias/31803/familiares-mujer-que-quedo-coma-tras-someterse-liposuccion-exigen-justicia

http://www.radiouno.pe/w/pdf/denunciafiscal31705.pdf

http://diariocorreo.pe/ultimas/noticias/2680730/medico-seria-suspendido-por-mala-praxis

If you look for information regarding this Doctor, you will find many atricles related to his prior problems. I also found written recommendations for patients of Rhinoplasty who posed a question on one of the Peru Forums that had asked "Which Doctor Will do a Rinoplastia for s/850" (which is the equivalent of about $300 ), and the answer was... Dr Johan Zuvar Zubieta Vargas. Amazing, isnt it? Even here in this country, where the typical price for this is five times more, can you find "so called" professionals who will lower the standard of medicine one more notch by charging prices so low, that it makes you wonder what kind of anesthesia is used, or what type of instruments are available to him.

Do you think the results of this type of surgery is satisfactory to his patients??? Need I mention how many patients we see on any given week that are looking to have other surgeons work corrected?

I can not understand for the life of me, why people are willing to put themselves at such a risk, when common sense should be telling them, it is just not possible to get the same treatment for one fifth of the normal price.

I am fairly sure that most people do not understand what is factored into the price of a  medical procedure. It can be staggering to think of all the costs that must be paid for by each patient. Physical location, utilities, equipment, personnel, medicines, materials, professional services, marketing, advertisement, taxes, long term expenses essential to growing the business, insurance, also profits. I doubt most consumers know how much it costs to attend surgical conferences that teach new methods, new safety procedures, new innovations in surgery. This is done at the Doctors own expense, travel costs, visa expenses, conference admissions, materials, hotels and food.  It can cost as much as five thousand dollars to attend a three day conference, sometimes more. How many professionals are willing to do this once a year? How many in this country can even do that once in two years, or even once in five years?? We do it several times a year, every year. That is how we can offer the techniques, technology and superior service that we do.

There is a certain cost associated with running a clinic, nurses, equipment, medications, all that is essential to ensure that every procedure is carried out in a safe, and predictive manner.

If you do not charge enough to pay for this, how can it be done?

They do not teach you how to do Liposuction, or Breast Implants, or Rhinoplasty in Medical School. These skills are learned in workshops, internships, extra courses, and working along with other experienced professionals. Then an additional certificate in Plastic Surgery is necessary to do these procedures without the supervision of another. Ask these questions, who is the qualified, certified Plastic Surgeon?

I will say it again for those of you who just do not get it.

If you are unable to afford the surgery that you are interested in having done, understand the risks involved in shopping for a cheaper surgeon. It is better advised to wait until you have more money, rather than to put your life in risk.

Safe Liposuction, Lipolaser, SmartLipo, Liposuction in Peru, Liposuccion Clinica Arroyo Lima Peru

How do we limit the risk of complications in Liposuction.
Our procedures and protocols have been in place, and used without question for almost 30 years. Some people might think that our measures are extreme, however that is why our clinic can boast about our success rate. It is not inconvenient to do Liposuction in several sessions over alternating days, it should always be the rule. Many Doctors and clinics are just too eager to take a patients money, and only tell them what they want to hear, or let the patients make their own decisions based on their personal schedules. That will only lead to problems, and sometimes dire consequences.
Safety of the patient is our first priority, that is why we do not accept all patients for surgery. If a patient is at risk, first an assessment will be done with a Doctor who specializes in that particular area( such as a Cardiologist for a heart related condition, etc) If all is approved, surgery will be done in accordance to any specialized instructions.
The greatest risks of liposuction are associated with the tendency of some surgeons to do too much surgery on the same day. The three types of excessive surgery include 1) removal of an excessive volume of fat by liposuction on a single day, 2) liposuction of an excessive number of body areas on the same day, 3) combination of liposuction and other unrelated surgical procedures which involves excessive surgical trauma and prolonged exposure to general anesthesia.
For those reasons as stated above, Only local anesthesia will be used, no more than 4 flasks of lidocaine or other anesthetic will be used at one time, no combination of surgeries will be done on the same day, Liposuction will be limited to particular zones.
A moment about local anesthesia and the safety of Tumescent Liposuction.
Lidocaine is the safest of local anesthetics available for liposuction. At lidocaine concentrations in the blood exceeding 6 milligrams/liter, patients might experience some toxicity. Blood concentrations of lidocaine in excess of 12 milligrams/liter can produce serious cardiac toxicity. The maximum recommended dosage of lidocaine for tumescent liposuction is 50 mg/kg (50 milligrams/kilogram of patient weight). The most extraordinary aspect of the tumescent technique is its unprecedented safety record when used as directed. Most liposuction surgeons know that it can be dangerous to give a patient a dosage of tumescent lidocaine that exceeds 50 mg/kg. All liposuction-related deaths have been associated with either the use of general anesthesia, or IV sedation, or lidocaine doses in far in excess of 75 mg/kg. The tumescent technique is dangerous in the hands of surgeons or anesthesiologists who have not had specific training in the technique. There has never been a reported death associated with tumescentliposuction totally by local anesthesia.
Preventing complications should be the most important concern of both patients and liposuction surgeons. Surgeons can reduce the risk of liposuction complications by proper selection of patients. Surgeons should avoid patients who have 1) unrealistic medical expectations, 2) a history of significant medical problems. Patients can reduce the risk of complications by 1) resisting the temptation to save time by attempting to do multiple unrelated surgical procedures along with liposuction, and 2) resisting the temptation to maximize the volume of fat removed on a single day. It is much safer to divide one very large liposuction procedure into two or more separate procedures done on separate days. Liposuction by general anesthesia can be considered safe, however, liposuction totally by local anesthesia is safe.

Please feel free to schedule a consultation in office, or if you have not yet arrived in Lima, telephone, and on-line consults are available.

Why Do Some Doctors Charge So Much Less Than Others For Liposuction?

I find myself frequently checking on competitors social media sites and websites, and try to figure out why someone would respond to theirs, over mine. It usually raises more questions than answers, but still I analyze the information, and try to see it as a consumer would.

I see such things on the home page of a website as, a Doctor posing with some celebrities, or other important people in the industry, dated 20 years before, and wonder what has he done lately?  Were these the only moments in the past 20 years that were memorable enough to mention? Most of these are posed at Conferences, where their only accomplishment was waiting for a photo op, never mind going to the Seminars to learn something.

Attending Several World Class Conferences each year, at your own expenses can be costly, but the experience gained is priceless. Do I want someone operating on me, who hasn't received any more training other than medical school?

Investing in ones self is the best money spent in a medical practice. Secondly, up to date equipment, is the next most costly expense, then comes staff. Under-staffing, and using lesser experienced Doctors and technicians are the other ways a practice can offer cheaper surgeries.

On the other hand, does paying more insure that you are getting the best? Not always, unfortunately. Notice I didn't title the article "Why Do Some Doctors Charge More for Liposuction", that is because most are trying to find ways to make things cheaper. That is where a consumer needs to be careful, and try to balance their decision, mostly using common sense. Read, Ask, Check. These few points may make the difference in Life or Death, Really. Another incident a few days ago, in Lince, Peru. Multiple surgeries in one session, in order to save money resulted in a patient death again., This was done by a Plastic Surgeon, but in an unlicensed Clinic, basically a house.

What makes people throw all common sense out the window, and risk their lives to save a little money? You can always get more money, but you cant get more life! There are basic costs that all Clinics and Doctors need to bear. After that, then some profit. Some will try to make more profit on patients who demonstrate a higher ability to pay, while others know that some profit on each patient is a better way to manage your prices.

Go with your gut, go with your feelings, use your head and all of your senses when making a decision. We treat all of our patients as if they are the only ones in the building. We charge a reasonable amount, give all that a patient expects, and provide all the guidance necessary to make the best treatment options. As we say here, spend a week, not a fortune, Come to Peru, and return a new you!!

Tummy Tuck Lima Peru

Abdominoplasty or "Tummy Tuck" is a surgical procedure that removes excess skin and fatty tissue from the abdomen, as well as tighten the underlying musculature. This procedure, performed in our Clinic, will tighten stretched, wrinkled skin, creating a firmer, flatter abdomen and narrower waistline. Protruding abdomens or those with loose, wrinkled, or hanging skin and fatty tissue, causes distress to thousands of people. Weak abdominal muscles, weight fluctuations, pregnancy, and surgical scars can wreak havoc on our lower midsections. For many people, this area does not respond well to diet and exercise. It is for this reason, that someone would choose to have a Tummy Tuck. Abdominoplasty, or a tummy tuck is not, however, a substitute for weight reduction, and it is not meant as a treatment for obesity. For that, we have several other options available, and will discuss that further in other articles. The ideal candidate for a tummy tuck has relatively normal weight with weak abdominal muscles and excess skin and fat of the lower abdomen. Loss of skin elasticity, which frequently occurs with slight obesity in older patients, or extreme fluctuations in weight, can result in loose, stretched, hanging skin, as well as fat in the lower abdomen. These conditions can be improved with this procedure. If stretch marks are a problem, only the marks on the excess or hanging skin will be removed. Abdominal wall hernias and/or abdominal scars can sometimes be complicating factors that may also be corrected during tummy tuck surgery. In some patients, we may recommend a less radical "mini" or "modified" tummy tuck. These procedures can be individualized to treat, conditions such as loose muscle tone without excess skin and fat. The procedure can also treat excess skin and fat without loose muscle tone. A "mini" abdominoplasty usually treats conditions or problems isolated to the lower abdomen. In these cases, an incision around the belly button (umbilicus) may not be necessary. The abdominal wall and muscles may be tightened depending on the requirements of the patient. Since no two of us are crested equally, an in office evaluation muct be done before we can recommend the proper procedure. Over 80% of all Lipo Patients agree.... Its worth it!!

In a major study published by the American Association for Plastic Surgery, which asked almost 1000 liposuction patients to see what their thoughts were. Almost 80% were more than satisfied with the results. In comments ranging from "Happy with my new self", to "A real boost in my self confidence", almost all patients had no regrets. Most people who have these procedures done, were trying to remove areas of fat stubborn to all other methods, such as diet, exercise and the like. Liposuction is not a weight loss method, but rather a body sculpting or trimming process, whereby you can regain your old shape, or create a totally new one. Everyone is built differently, and therefore have specific concerns about their own bodies. For some, it is just a matter of trimming their waistline so that clothes fit better, for others, it can be a particular embarrassment while wearing tight fitting clothes or a bathing suit. Whatever your concerns are, it is easily handled. We can remove your "Muffin top waist", sculpt a more perfect butt and thigh contour, or reduce that flabby middle left by a pregnancy. "Mommy makeover" patients are some of the happiest Clinic Arroyo Lima Peru

"Mommy makeover" patients are some of the happiest Women who receive abdominoplasty and breast enhancement surgery after having children are among the happiest patients, plastic surgeon Gregory Stagnone of Dallas says. However, the procedures involved are not without risk, and patients who want to lose weight or plan to have more children may not be good candidates, Stagnone says. "I've noticed that my self-esteem has gotten better," said one patient who received a so-called mommy makeover after having had two cesarean sections. Shopping for Cheap Surgery Can Have Deadly Consequences

photo credit above from right. Dra Giuliana Arroyo Goldstein(Peru), Dr Giorgio Fischer(Italy), Dr Pierre Fournier(France) Dr Alain Tenenbaum(Switzerland), Andrew Goldstein (USA) at 54 world congress of Cosmetic Surgery, Buenos Aires Argentina Sept 2012

There are some things that are OK to shop for a cheaper price, such as laundry detergent, paper products, or other consumables. But what about Cosmetic Surgery? How is it possible to find so many variations in pricing for a similar procedure?
Consumers are always looking for ways to save money, and that's fine, but not when you put your life at risk for the sake of saving money.

When you need new brakes on your car, would you like to save $10 and buy some no name imports from China, or full price for domestics, made for your car?(less than 10% difference of the total bill).
If, you were told that you needed heart surgery in order to save your life, would you look for the cheapest Heart Surgeon, or the Best Heart Surgeon available?

So why do people insist on putting their life at risk when choosing surgeons for Cosmetic Surgery? Do they actually think that it is not as important? Is it possible that it is not as risky? My, oh my how wrong can they be.
In the past few weeks, I have had contacts from patients who have regretted their choices in cheap Surgeries from other Doctors, patients who have had a relative die because of the bad choices of another Doctor, and have seen several different news articles of patients that have died during what should have been simple procedures, but at the hands of negligent or over-anxious Surgeons.

What is going on here? I was always under the impression that Liposuction was the safest procedure, so safe it could be performed by any qualified surgeon, but it is not that simple. Yes, it is true, that according to the American Society for Dermatologic Surgery, When performed by a board certified dermatologic surgeon, tumescent liposuction using local anesthesia is a remarkably safe procedure with few significant side effects.

There are three points to be mentioned regarding all Liposuction procedures, and they are as follows:
Doctors performing Liposuction should avoid
Extracting excessively large amounts of fat (maximum of 5 liters in a single session)
Performing multiple surgeries in addition to the Liposuction
Using General Anesthesia, or a combination of Local/General Anesthesia.

Following these protocols, as a general rule of thumb is great, but a more qualified Surgeon, one who has specialized in this procedure, can refine those points to perfection. How about over 30 years experience, and over 30,000 safe patient procedures?

Experience speaks volumes. That is why people come to us from all over the world. Not to save money, but for safety, security, and fantastic results.

Now, how can Doctors, and Clinics cheapen the prices to rock bottom lows? Simple. Sub-Par, all the way. From Doctors who do not attend world wide functions to hone their skills, and learn new techniques, to old, out dated equipment, to under skilled staff, to generic and possible dangerous medications, and much more. You can start to see how much money can be saved by cutting corners, and every one of those bad choices will affect patient safety.
You may see a great web page, the facade of the clinic, fancy cars and houses, but you can not see what harm can come from cheap surgeons.
Experience costs money, equipment costs money, investing in medical staff can cost years worth of salaries before there is a return on investment. There is no room for economy in Surgery.

Patients, who insist on multiple surgeries in the same day, and Doctors who oblige are not following proper protocols for patient safety. It costs more for multiple entries to the surgery room, sure it does, but you will not put the patient at risk, plain and simple. Lowering prices, to accept a patients budget, as opposed to charging what is fair and acceptable, means that sacrifices need to be made, and spending less per patient is not advised. It becomes the link in a chain reaction of cheap choices with possible deadly consequences.

Another area of concern, is proper screening using a thorough medical history of the patient. There are many indicators of an at risk patient. Not all are candidates for elective cosmetic surgery.  There are also ways to manage a particular patients risk factors should they have them, and still wish to proceed. Thorough
Laboratory Blood Testing, Cardiac Screening, Medical Internists on staff, are all indicators of what any prospective patient should go through. They also all cost money. Short cuts here will definitely put your life in DANGER!!!! Run, don't walk if these things are not available to you.

In summary, everything worthwhile comes with a price. This is one area, that if you can afford to do it right, by all means go for it. If it is beyond your reach right now, maybe you just need to wait a little while, and save some more money, in order to have it done correctly.
Cosmetic Surgery can have positive life changing effects on most people who want changes to their appearance.
Schedule your consultation with us, and be the person you deserve to be, spoil yourself a little, the rewards are amazing.

Why Choose Us, Clinica Arroyo Goldstein , Lima Peru

What makes one clinic a better choice for liposuction procedures?

Just like anything else we shop for, all consumers are looking for the same thing. The best quality, the best service, and the cheapest price. Consumers always end up sacrificing at least one of these three things in order to get what they are in the market for.  To illustrate this, you know that companies will make a cheaper version of a more expensive product by using low quality materials, that is how it can be made and sold for less money. It is just not possible to get the absolute best, by paying the least amount. We weigh the balance of quality, service and price and usually spend more money for a better product when we know it needs to be durable. We spend less money, and buy something cheap when we think of it as a disposable item.

Now, when we are talking about medical procedures, what makes the price different from one clinic to the next?  First of all, the same procedure for one person is going to be different for another person even at the same clinic. Every person is not made exactly the same, our bodies accumulate fat differently, our shape and size make for other differences, and there are many other factors to consider.

When it comes to shopping for medical treatments, what factors are important?
The facility itself. Is the equipment modern? Is it working properly? Is it properly maintained? How about the Doctors? From education, to experience, to keeping up with new techniques and procedures. In order to stay on top of their profession, Doctors must be active in the Medical Community, and travel for educational seminars, unlike any other profession, and usually at their own expense.

Returning to the main topic, prices at other clinics, how can there be so many variables? We can start with the physical location, equipment, various expenses that in the end will ensure safe patient surgeries. Doctors specialty training, years of experience, nurses and technicians, medicines, surgical supplies. The list goes on and on.

Now, this doesn't mean that if you spend the most, you get the most, but you can see, that cheap doesn't work either. You need to see for yourself how cost and service can be balanced, and obtain good value.

We at Clinic Arroyo Goldstein give you that balance. The best quality and service at a reasonable price.
Not only has the reputation of over 30 years experience, and over 30,000 safe patient surgeries speak for itself, our patients speak for us as well (see patient testimonials below)
Our Staff has been to Conferences in such locations as Paris France, Barcelona Spain, Florence Italy, Miami, Florida USA, Buenos Aires Argentina, and more.

There are many choices that we offer just in the area of Liposuction alone. Laser Lipo, Ultrasonic Lipo,  Vaser Lipo, Smart Lipo, etc.  upon examination, we can determine which will be the best for you.

Come in for a consultation and find out why we are the ONLY option for your procedure.
Find out why patients come to us from all over the world each and every day for Liposuction, Breast Implants, Rhinoplasty, Tummy Tucks, Face Lifts, Anti-Aging treatments, and many other services.

PRP - Platelet Rich Plasma - Therapy Clinica Arroyo Goldstein Lima Peru

What is it?

Platelet Rich Plasma, or PRP, is a fraction of your own blood drawn off and spun down and then reapplied or injected to create improved tissue health.

Platelets are very small cells in your blood that are involved in the clotting process. As they are organise in the clot they release a number of enzymes to promote healing and tissue responses including attracting stem cells to repair the damaged area. When used in injured or sun- and time-damaged tissue they can induce a remodeling of the tissue to a more healthy and younger state.

What Can It Be Used For?

PRP - can be used in speeding healing of open wounds, in tendon and other musculoskeletal injuries and in problems like arthritis. If you check You Tube and Google for PRP or platelet rich plasma therapy you will encounter many people, especially orthopaedic surgeons explaining the technology and showing in what situations they can use it.

But platelet rich plasma - PRP - can be used also to improve skin texture, lines and wrinkles. By injecting it into the facial area, skin layer fibroblasts and other cells can be stimulated to a more youthful function. Areas like crepey areas under eyes and in necks can show dramatic improvement. Lines like about upper lips can also improve. And the general texture and turgor of the skin will improve.

Who Can Benefit From It?

Anyone who is using cosmetic treatments for lines, wrinkles, poorer skin condition and general skin reconditioning can be improved with platelet rich plasma therapy or PRP. And anyone who has had problems tolerating products for these sorts of procedures will be encouraged by the fact they are using purely their own cells and tissues. The most dramatic results so far have been in the crepey skin problems in areas such as under eyes, necks and decolletage areas. It is not designed to replace surgery for loose skin where procedures such as blepharoplasties etc would be more appropriate.

The Procedure Explained.

Several, usually two or three tubes of blood are taken in much the same way blood is taken for blood testing. While the skin is being numbed with a topical anaesthetic cream, the blood sample is spun for around eight minutes in a centrifuge to produce the platelet rich plasma - PRP.

The platelet rich plasma - PRP - is drawn from the tube into a small syringe. A small amount of calcium chloride solution is added to the syringe to stimulate the process. Once mixed in the syringe the platelet rich plasma - PRP - is then injected in the cleaned anaesthetised skin in either small lines or tiny dots in the deeper skin.
For skin improvements platelet rich plasma is instilled into the same areas over three sessions usually spaced around a month apart each time.

When Will I See Results?

To those people aware of their skin texture and structure they may be aware within a week of some early changes. But this is a gradual process with changes continuing to show for three to six months after the treatment with the platelet rich plasma - PRP.

So for a cosmetic application it would be best to wait for three months or so after the third treatment session of platelet rich plasma - PRP - before making a judgement on the outcome. And some will be achieving further changes for another three months - six months after the last treatment.

How Long Does It Last?

At the moment the effect seems to last about two years. Obviously there will be variations from one person to the next on this. Initially it was felt the effects and length of benefit would be better in younger patients with younger cells to work with. But with platelet rich plasma therapy, as with non-ablative laser treatments, effects can be very good in people one would consider older.

Can The Treatment Be Repeated?

There is no reason that platelet rich plasma - PRP - therapies could not be repeated. As you are using your own tissue there is no problem with continued use. Some people elect to do a single session each year to boost and lengthen the effect of the initial group of treatments.

Are There Side Effects?

There will be some short-lasting pinkness or redness of the skin following injection of the platelet rich plasma - PRP. Bruising is also a possibility as the needle is used to place the PRP into the skin. This may take a week or so to resolve.

PRP - platelet rich plasma therapy creates subtle changes with your own tissue

Brazilian Butt Lift, Lima Peru Fat Grafting Buttocks Implant Lima Peru

Do you wish you had a fuller, rounder bottom? Do you fantasize about having an hourglass figure? Do you feel that your butt is too small, too flat or not in proportion with your body?
Thanks go to Kim Kardashian, and Jennifer Lopez, for they are the ones responsible for this.  Some women have this look and proportion naturally, while others opt for surgical procedures that will change them quickly
There are several options for you that will allow you to achieve your wishes. Let’s take a minute to identify the different procedures.
1 Gluteal Implant
2 Fat Transfer from Lipo, Aka Brazilian Butt Lift
3 Injectible Fillers

Which of these methods are more desirable? Which of these procedures will give me the best results? Which is safest?
Glutelal Implants, are made of solid silicone, unlike silicone Breast Implants which are made from silicone gel.  This surgical procedure is usually done under general anesthesia, where incisions are made, and the implants are inserted. We do not offer this type of surgery, as it poses certain risks to the patient, and the results are not as natural as our method of Brazilian Butt lift.
Injectable fillers for Butt Implants are not advised, as there are currently no safe products available for this. There are safe injectables for facial filling, just not for the gluteus.
Clinica Arroyo Goldstein is known worldwide for our safety in surgical procedures. The Butt Lift is no exception. There is only one safe way of doing this, and we have been offering this body shaping process to patients that come to us from four continents.  Our method is using the patient’s own fat which is removed by a carefully planned liposuction procedure, which will maintain the fat in such a state that it can be implanted in other areas in order to form a more perfect contour.  A persons own fat is much safer than using any foreign materials, as there is only a very small chance of rejection.
Liposuction will performed in areas such as the hip, waist, lower back and thigh, essentially taking away from one side and adding to another.  This procedure is accomplished using local anesthesia, so that there is almost no risk to the patient, and the results are outstanding. Immediately after the procedure and for the first two weeks there will be some swelling, which will reduce.  At approximately three months after the procedure, the remaining volume will be permanent.  We will advise you after the procedure on how best to insure the maximum finished results
What makes us different is experience. This procedure is not just about making your butt bigger, it is about making your body more proportionate, and for that, it takes surgical experience.

Kosmogel, a small price to pay for such big results.

The photo that is shown above is a case of a 14 year old girls who was initially interested in a surgical Rhinoplasty. As you can see in the pre picture, there is quite a curvature in the line of the nose. Unfortunately, there is some distortion in the picture, which makes her cheek appear to be puffed out, in fact it is not. The procedure that was done here, was to use a syringe of Kosmogel to redefine the shape of the nose, and some more was applied on her face near the base of her nose in order to create more balance. The entire procedure was completed in under 15 minutes, and the post procedure picture is shown two days later. Kosmogel, when applied in accordance to strict guidelines, and under the direction of its creator Dr Alain Tenenbaum, of Switzerland is a marvelous product. There is no migration with this product, as it self encapsulates in approximately 30 days, will last a lifetime, and is the only injectible filler that is completely removable. For more information regarding this product, or procedure, please feel free to contact me at the Clinic. Andrew C. Goldstein

Liposuction Surgery Procedures For Different Body Types Clinic Arroyo Goldstein Lima Peru

Liposuction Surgery Procedures For Different Body Types

We all have our own idea of what our bodies (and those of others around us) should look like. Some of us have frames that allow more "curves" (bigger hips, buttocks, stomachs, etc.), some of us are rail thin but have a little bit of stubborn fat in one or two places.

Gender is a factor in fat distribution. Men tend to have what is referred to as an android body type. They have thin legs and hips and carry their weight around their waists in an apple shape. Women generally have what are called gynoid body types. They tend to carry weight in the thighs and hips, and are pear-shaped. These are not hard and fast rules. There are men out there who are pear-shaped and women who are apples on sticks. There are also variations on these themes.

Many body types that can benefit from liposuction are called "deformities." That is such a harsh term. I don't care to use this terminology unless there is simply no way around it. I don't consider any of us to be deformed. The word deformity should be reserved for a condition that impairs function, not to describe a different silhouette. Everyone has a different body type and we all aren't Barbie or Ken and it would be boring if we were. We're just trying to balance our bodies a little and get a better silhouette.

Although the diagrams depicted in the following sections are just examples, individuals can have any combination of any of these problems and problems in additional areas. We are just covering the most common complaints in these sections.

Female Body Types and Complaints
Most women with excess body fat tend to carry their weight in areas in the thighs, hips, abdomen and general lower torso, buttocks and knees. There are several female body types that can benefit from liposuction. As I said, the medical community calls these deformities, but doesnt that sound harsh? Although the diagrams below are just examples, individuals can have any combination of these problems.

Saddlebags, Fatty Inner Thighs, and Knees
When I gained an extra 20 lb at one point, I had saddlebags, fatty thighs, and knees. I also had a small waist, which made the lower half of me look even larger. What joy. The clinical name for saddlebags is trochanteric excess. But who goes around saying that except doctors?? Say saddlebags and people know what you mean. Thigh liposuction takes care of this problem very well, if performed correctly. The body shape below can be sculpted to appear more balanced and shapely, as opposed to looking like a pear. Additionally, women often wonder how to get rid of love handles. Often, liposuction can take care of this problem area.

Excess Medial Thigh Deformity
This shape is not as common as saddlebags, but is common enough to be a regular reason for liposuction. Excess medial thigh deformity is when the middle points of the thighs are larger than the upper. The thighs appear to start lower than they should, but the hips, upper thigh and waist are usually normal size. No saddlebags are present, just exceptionally curvy medial thigh. This diagram also shows excess fat on inner thighs and knees.

Excess Flank, Waist, and Abdominal Fat
This diagram shows a figure with a thicker waist due to excess lateral abdominal fat and excess fat on the flanks. Even a small-framed person can have the appearance of having a larger waist or a wide body when the fat is distributed this way. Liposuction can improve this body type and create a thinner waist and remove the flank fat that hangs over the top of your jeans. This diagram also depicts excess inner thigh fat.

Violin Deformity and Fatty Calves
This is when you have a fuller, upper hip area and saddlebags, but a normal-sized or smaller mid-hip area. Your hips and thighs mimic the outline of a violin, with the indent at hip level. This diagram also shows some excess fat on the calves and inner thighs.

Upper Arm Fat
Liposuction to fat on the upper arms can be very beneficial, but it is also risky if not performed correctly. It can result in lymphedema, or temporary or chronic swelling of the arm and hand. Lymphedema can occur if the surgeon disrupts the ductwork and lymph nodes of the arm that drain fluids.

Submental (Under Chin) Fat
Having a deposit of fat under the chin is very common. Liposuction to remove this fat deposit is often done by itself or with additional facial cosmetic procedures such as a face lift or chin augmentation. Submental liposuction by itself can make a person look like she has lost a lot of weight. Neck and under chin liposuction may be performed in conjunction with a neck lift if the skin is too lax afterwards or with a platysmaplasty (a neck lift with muscle tightening) if the muscles of the throat and under the chin have also relaxed and separated.

Male Body Types and Complaints
Men tend to carry their extra body fat in the torso area, the flanks, abdomen and back. When the fat circles the torso, it is often called a spare tire or love handles. The pubic mound may have fatty deposits. Men can have fatty deposits on the upper chest, which can look like breasts, or they can develop actual breast tissue, which is a condition called gynecomastia, or they can have both. Of course men can have leg and arm fat as well, but the common liposuction areas for men tend to be on the torso.

Abdomen and Flanks
Many men have their flanks and lower abdomen slimmed down with liposuction. These areas may be the most common complaint in male patients.

Gynecomastia and Spare Tire
Gynecomastia is excess tissue in the male breast. I have heard gynecomastia rudely referred to as "bitch tits." It can be a side effect of steroid use or can be due to hormonal imbalances. In many men who are carrying extra pounds, these pseudobreasts are just fat. However, it can be actually breast tissue in some men. Liposuction can remove the fat deposits. If breast tissue is present, it can be removed surgically.

The spare tire is a common and much loathed male fat deposit. Fat deposits in the waist area tend to spread to the back as well. When excess fat collects along this area many men think about getting liposuction. For men, liposuction here is a very routine procedure.

Abdominal and Pubic Mound Protuberances
There are two areas of fat that can expand considerably to extend the abdomen, subcutaneous fat, which is routinely removed, and visceral (intra-abdominal) fat, which is rarely removed with liposuction. The fat that you can pinch that sits above your abdominal muscles is what can be safely removed by liposuction. However, the fat that is underneath your abdominal muscles and that surrounds your organs is dangerous to remove. Please see our Anatomy Section for more information on visceral fat.

Usually, as the fat around the front of a mans abdomen expands, so do the fat deposits on the flanks and back. Liposuction can really make a difference for those men who have a spare tire and love handles.

On a man, the pubic mound also collects fat and expands with weight gain. A mans body may put down a pad of fat right over the pubic bone, just above the genitals. This can cause the pubic mound to protrude. The fat can even surround the base of the penis. Liposuction can help this problem.

Submental (Under Chin) Fat
Many men develop a double chin. Liposuction can remove the fat that collects under the chin and expands the neck and this is done commonly. Liposuction under the chin is also often combined with facial cosmetic procedures. Often, taking out a few ounces of fat under the chin can make a man look like he has lost many pounds. Neck and under chin liposuction may be performed in conjunction with a neck lift if the skin is too loose afterwards or with a platysmaplasty (which is a neck lift with muscle tightening) if the muscles of the throat area have also relaxed and separated.
